Definition of Backdrop

Beyond The Backdrop
As business owners, we all set up the backdrop or scene of how our businesses should look to the outside world. However, we often forget that what lies beyond the backdrops we create heavily affect how our business is run. We often try to hide this, feeling that sharing too much of who we are outside of our businesses, as well as our struggles as a negative thing. Due to the nature of social media, and e-commerce in general, this has lead to less personal business practices, where the heart and people are forgotten.
Here at Beyond The Backdrop we celebrate the people behind the small business and believe that there does not need to be a divide between personal and business and that by being open, honest and sharing with our customers we can create better lasting relationships and devoted customers.
Through experience, we also feel that we as business owners don’t give our customers enough credit for understanding. We have found that when we are open and honest with our customers about problems, they usually respond with understanding. However, when we give them general responses and false apologies without a reason backing it up, they become frustrated. Treating our customers like a friend, and being open and honest makes the experience more personal for both business owner and customer. By creating relationships, we create devoted customers who want to tell the world about how awesome and understanding our businesses are.
Supporting Small Businesses
Beyond The Backdrop is a sister brand of Mini Backdrops which always had the core value of creating a support system for other small businesses and start-ups. However Mini Backdrops has come to an end, and it no longer makes sense to include continue this community there. It needs its own place. It is the goal of Beyond The Backdrop to create a space for small business owners who are just starting out to find information that is useful and realistic. Building a small business is hard work. You need to know that, so we make sure to share ALL the aspects of building a small business, both the good and the bad. We do this through our weekly Podcast, where we feature small business owners by getting to know who they really are and why they started their business.
But that is just the start… later we hope to include weekly live chats, and also tutorials and various topics such as social media, building a website… you name it and we will try and do a tutorial for it. We also have a community on Facebook for like-minded people who want to find support from others going through similar things. Community helps us through those rough patches. A community is key for pushing through the hardest times of owning a small business. When you finally push through… that is when you find success.
It Doesn’t Cost A Thing
We will be providing these services for free. We know that starting a business costs money, and sometimes we just need a bit of a break to get going. But keep that in mind… it is just to help you get going. At some point, you will need to invest further in some sort of training, or professional services of some sort because we can not do it all on our own after a certain point if we want our businesses to continue to grow. We hope to in the future to have an awesome directory of courses and professionals that can further your goals.
So how are we going to do this all for free? Well, by monetizing the website through advertising and affiliate links. We will try and keep it to a minimum.
